Gender Affirming Care PEI humbly acknowledges the unceded and traditional lands of the Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island on which we live, work and play. We know that without action, acknowledgment is meaningless. We’re committed to continued growth and education on how we can better respect, learn from and advocate for all Indigenous peoples. We continuously work towards decolonizing our practices and being actively anti-racist.Words matter: On this website, we use the term “trans,” while acknowledging that people use many words to describe their sex and gender or identity, including female, male, man, woman, AFAB, AMAB, transgender, transsexual, intersex, queer, non-binary, questioning, two-spirited or third-gender, among others. These terms, as well as thinking and attitudes towards sex and gender, change continuously, within society as a whole and within communities. These definitions are not standardized and may be used differently by different people in different regions, countries and cultures. In particular, we recognize "sex" and "gender" as distinct definitions, while acknowledging their social and cultural interconnectedness. In an effort of simplicity, we refer to biological attributes, such as, but not limited to, hormones, chromosomes, reproductive anatomy, and secondary sex characteristics, as "sex"; while "gender" will be in reference to someone's social and cultural sense of self. With respect to that, we sometimes use terms that some may find uncomfortable, but we strive to only use words in contexts in which they are most appropriate for the communication of ideas and when more specific distinctions are needed for explanation.
